Adding a volunteer position and logging hours is easy!
To Add a NEW volunteer position simply go to your profile, which can be accessed from the top menu or from your name tab on the right side of the screen.
In your profile, there is a "My Volunteerism" Section, simply click the "Add Position" Button and follow the prompts. You can include your position title, as well as the skills involved for the position.
You can log hours straight from here, or by clicking the "Log Hours" tab on the top menu. Follow the prompts to add which position you are logging hours for, choose the number of hours, and add feedback! Organization can then approve your hours!
The short 2 minute video below walks you through all these options! You can read on to find detailed descriptions on how to do each task.
Thank you for giving back through your volunteerism!
MY VOLUNTEERISM
ADD CURRENT / EXISTING VOLUNTEER POSITIONS
You may have an upcoming volunteer commitment that likely wouldn't be posted on Do Some Good if you have already filled the position. Or, you may be volunteering on an ongoing basis as a coach or for a board position, which would not be posted on our platform, as you are already actively doing it. For these situations, use "Add Position" to add current and existing volunteerism:
- Press "Add Position" near the top of your profile.
- Search for the Organization you are volunteering for or have volunteered for. If they are not on our system, invite them to join by adding what city the organization is located in and clicking the 'send an invite' checkbox. If you don't know their contact information, that's okay, just click 'next'.
- Enter the name of the position (or if the organization is on Do Some Good, you can search to see if they have posted a similar position in the past).
- If the volunteer experience is current, upcoming or ongoing, keep "I currently volunteer for this position" clicked.
- Add the year you first began this position (and optionally add the month)
- Optionally, add the reason why you volunteered here.
- Choose the top 3 skills you learned or contributed for this position (if the organization is a user on Do Some Good, your skills will be sent to them to be endorsed)
Logging Hours for this position
- Once saved, your profile will be updated and the position will be listed. It has also been added to the "Log Hours" page in the dropdown list. If you added an ongoing position, you can now add previous hours on the "Log Hours" page and continue to log hours until the position has been completed.
Not sure WHY you should log your hours? Here are 4 Reasons WHY to Log your Hours, and how logging hours can help your cause, community, company and yourself!
Once you have completed volunteering for this position
- Once the position has ended and you are done logging hours for it, use the "Actions" dropdown on your profile to "Move to 'My Volunteer History'". Remember: once you mark it as completed, you will no longer be able to log hours for it anymore.
