Do Some Good's 'Dollar Input' Element allows you to gather $ values from applicants, whether that be a donation or sponsorship amount requested, the value of an in-kind product or service, or budget information. Choosing the right properties within this Element dictates whether the $ values entered contribute to totals.

When to Use the 'Dollar Input' Element
Use the 'Dollar Input' element in your form whenever you'd like to gather information as a dollar amount. The properties window for the 'Dollar Input' element (accessed by clicking on that element in your form while in Form Builder) includes two 'Tally' properties you can select (or not):
- 'Include in Tally for $ Requested'
- 'Include in Tally for In-Kind $ Requested'
By default, the 'Include in Tally for $ Requested' is selected.
There are two main types of information you'll likely want to gather using the 'Dollar Input' Element:
- Donation/sponsorship/in-kind requests
- Budget-related information
Let's dig deeper into each type so you can understand when to select the Tally properties or not.
Donation / Sponsorship / In-Kind Request Information (Use 'Tally' Properties)
When you use the 'Dollar Input' element to gather information from organizations about donation, sponsorship, or in-kind requests (e.g., What amount of funding are you requesting?), you will want the $ value entered to contribute to totals. To ensure this happens, you will want to make sure one of the 'Tally' properties are selected (whichever one applies: $ requested or in-kind $ requested).
When a 'Tally' property is selected, the $ value entered by an applicant in the 'Dollar Input' element in your form will contribute to totals found here:
- The Requested and Paid columns on your Forms page.
- The Requested and Paid amounts in your forms summary reports.
- The 'Total Amounts' area on each submission Details page.
If the 'Include in tally for in-kind $' property is selected for the 'Dollar Input' element instead, it works in the exact same way but rather than contributing to a monetary total, any $ values entered by an applicant in the 'Dollar Input' element in your form will contribute to an in-kind total.
Budget-Related Information (Don't Use 'Tally' Properties)
When you use the 'Dollar Input' element to gather information from organizations about their budget, fundraising goals, amount fundraised to date, etc., you are not looking to have this information contribute to totals and therefore you should ensure the two 'Tally' properties are NOT selected.
'Requires Confirmation on State Change' Property
By default, a new 'Dollar Input' element will also have the 'Requires confirmation on state change' property selected. This means that the value can be edited and adjusted by your administrators during the review and approval process.
When changing to an approved state, the values requiring confirmation (original and updated value) will be displayed to you. When included in reports, two columns will be available for this field: one for the original request amount and one for the amount at the time the report is run.
