Lindsay Phelps was certainly in the right place at the right time as she logged the millionth hour of volunteerism on Do Some Good.
As a Senior Human Resources Advisor at First West Credit Union, Lindsay is one of over 31,000 individual users who track their volunteerism on the Do Some Good platform. She was logging her hours as a Board Member for the Canadian Mental Health Association South Okanagan Similkameen chapter and for her recent participation in a Healthy Wellness Fair in her local community of Penticton, British Columbia. This brought the collective total to over one million hours.
Mental health and wellness is something that hits close to home for Lindsay. Seeing many friends and family affected by it made her want to take action into her own hands. Volunteering for the Board is a way that Lindsay can influence decisions that affect those she cares about and the community at large. She says that Do Some Good is the perfect place to build her volunteer profile; she finds that it is an intuitive, user-friendly and a community-centric platform and enjoys learning and engaging with the causes she cares about.
Lindsay’s employer, is no stranger to Do Some Good either. Valley First, a division of First West Credit Union, is one of Do Some Good’s community partners and uses the technology’s business features to engage with its employees around shared community values.
Susan Byrom, Senior Manager of Community Investment at First West Credit Union and Executive Director at First West Foundation sent a kind note to the Do Some Good team upon learning about this milestone:
“Many organizations value one hour of volunteerism at $25 -- that's $25,000,000 saved by non-profit organizations. We all can appreciate the effort it takes a non-profit organization to raise $1 of funding; the contribution of hours by so many volunteers means non-profit organizations can redirect their fundraising dollars to serve and support the community.”
On behalf of the entire Do Some Good team, we want to thank every person, Good Company and community organization who contributed to this major milestone! After all -- behind every hour is a kid being coached, a senior being assisted and a healthier community being built for all.
